Guthrie Family

For generations, the Guthrie family has farmed in Tennessee.  Rush and Sandra Guthrie purchased the farm near Riceville in 1989.  Their goal was to purchase poorly managed and abused farmland and restore it by implementing the latest in management and conservation practices.  To date, the Guthrie’s have been able to bring the farm back to a state of beauty, balance, and productivity.  Their son Josh grew up on the farm and he, his wife, Carolyn, and son Adam, work with his parents in the operation.

In 2000, the family decided to open the farm to the public each October.  The idea humbly began with a few farm animals on the hillside and several acres of pumpkins all planted by hand. Over the years the operation has grown. The family feels blessed to have hosted many children on school field trips and families on the weekends, now seeing the children of the very first visitors. In addition, the farm provides an outdoor learning experience, exploring how food gets from the farm to the table.

Guthrie Farm’s primary mission is to provide locally raised Angus beef of the highest quality.  At the same time, we want to educate families and children who, many times, are generationally removed from the farm, thus unaware of the value and importance of sustainable agriculture. Our goal is to provide our customers with an authentic, family friendly, farm experience.
